Know what to expect.

Financial Considerations

Before Your Surgery

Surgery can be the recommended treatment modality for some conditions and injuries. If you choose to go down this path there are several additional things to consider.

Financial Considerations

The Australian Medical Association recommends fees that should be charged for surgical procedures. Medicare will rebate a portion of this fee, your insurance will cover another portion, and the remainder will be an 'out of pocket' expense known as the 'gap'.

Some expenses are outside the control of the surgeon, such as your insurance cover, anaesthetist and surgical assistant 'gaps'.

There may be incidental expenses for medical imaging, splints, braces, or medications that may be required.

Financial Considerations

Health Insurance

Private health insurance will vary depending on the company and your level of cover. It is recommended to discuss your planned surgery with your insurance company to determine what 'out of pocket' expenses you can expect.

Some insurance companies may require documentation prior to the surgery. Notify our staff and we can provide this if needed.

Workcover Injuries

We are happy to treat Workcover injuries and can liaise with your employer/insurance to assess if the condition or injury will be covered by Workcover.

If approved, then there will be no 'out of pocket' expenses during your consultation, surgery, and follow-up.

It is sometimes necessary for an insurance agent to attend your consultations as part of a combined conference; however, we can also have separate private consultations without the insurance agent being present.

Department of Veterans’ Affairs

Some procedures are covered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Notify our staff of your level of cover and we can provide quotations for your procedure. We will do our best to support our veterans and minimise 'out of pocket' expenses.

Self-Funding

For some patients without health insurance self-funding your surgery may be an option. In this case, contact our staff for a quote and payment options prior to booking your surgical date.
