Dr Dan George Awarded Inaugural Australian Arthroplasty Travelling Fellow
STAR Orthopaedics is proud to announce that Dr Dan George has been awarded the inaugural Australian Arthroplasty Travelling Fellow Award, recognising his commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration in joint replacement surgery.
As part of this prestigious fellowship, Dr George has been travelling around Australia, spending time in leading arthroplasty centres and being hosted by world-renowned hip and knee surgeons. These visits have provided a unique opportunity to observe different approaches to complex arthroplasty, share ideas, and refine techniques that directly benefit patients at STAR Orthopaedics.
Brisbane Visit
One recent highlight included time in Brisbane with Dr Cam Cooke and Dr Peter Gifford, where Dr George spent several days in the operating theatre focusing on:
- Advanced techniques in hip and knee arthroplasty
- Robotic-assisted joint replacement and digital planning
- Strategies to enhance surgical efficiency and patient flow

Other Site Visits
The fellowship has also taken Dr George to other major centres:
Gold Coast
- Visit with A/Prof David Lui at Gold Coast Hospital
- Observing cutting-edge work in unicompartmental robotic knee replacement
Sydney
- Time with Dr Michael Dixon, focusing on robotic knee replacement
- Time with Dr Mark Flemming, exploring anterior hip replacement techniques
- Visit with Dr David Broe, gaining further insights into sports knee surgery and arthroplasty, including management of complex cases in active patients
Learning Beyond the Operating Theatre
Beyond the technical learning in theatre, some of the most valuable moments of the fellowship have come from informal discussions between cases—conversations about how to design and deliver a truly patient-focused private practice.
Topics have ranged from pre-operative education and expectation-setting, to streamlined communication, post-operative follow-up, and building a practice culture that keeps the patient experience at the centre of every decision.
Impact of the Fellowship
Across each site visit, the fellowship has reinforced the value of collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement in orthopaedics. The insights gained—from fine technical details to broader system efficiencies—will help Dr George continue to push the boundaries of hip and knee reconstruction for patients in Adelaide and beyond.
Congratulations
STAR Orthopaedics congratulates Dr Dan George on this significant achievement and looks forward to seeing the ongoing impact of this fellowship on patient care and outcomes.
It’s an incredible privilege to learn from surgeons who are not only technically outstanding, but also relentlessly focused on precision, innovation, and patient-centred care. These experiences raise the bar for what we can offer our patients back home.
